Neonatal Nurses Association awards nurses for excellence
During the Neonatal Nurses Association (NNA) Annual Awards, the Neonatal Nurse of the Year Award 2025 was won by Merla Medina. Merla was recognised as an inspirational neonatal nurse who has made an extraordinary difference through supporting colleagues to optimise care for babies.
The Neonatal Team of the Year Award 2025 went to Swansea Bay Neonatal Tissue Team. This recognition celebrates excellence and innovation in the care of nano-preterm babies' skin, to deliver outstanding care for babies and their families.
The Practice Development Award 2025 was won by the National Neonatal Surgical Interest Group for its dedication and impactful work to optimise care for neonates requiring surgery.
In 2025 a new award was introduced; the Outstanding Contribution to Neonatal Nursing Award, and this was won by Dr Vicky Payne.

This award stands as a testament to the profound and lasting impact of Vicky's work.”
