NICU community unites for Incubator Push at Crystal Palace Park

Despite unpredictable weather, 80 families took part in the Incubator Push event at Crystal Palace Park, London, raising more than £24,000 for life-saving neonatal equipment. This event was the first of the Incubator Push event series by the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity, aiming to reach a £28,000 goal: the cost of an incubator.

With continued support, the charity is increasing its target to raise another £28,000 by organising two more events this year, the Incubator Push Finsbury Park on 13 September and Incubator Push Portsmouth at the Mountbatten Athletics Track on 20 September.

The Crystal Palace Park event was launched by Paralympian Gemma Collis, who is not only a triple World Cup winner and formidable Wheelchair Fencer for Great Britain but also the newly appointed ambassador for Ickle Pickles. Gemma herself was born prematurely, making her deeply connected to the cause.

She says: “Having been born prematurely myself at 29 weeks, I know how vital it is that every premature or sick baby is given their best chance and best start in life. And that’s what Ickle Pickles is all about: it is about raising funds for vital equipment and giving parents the support they need.”

Gemma’s inspiring journey and commitment to the charity's mission set an empowering tone for the day. After the event, she shared: “It was such a fun day! Listening to everyone’s stories brought home how important Ickle Pickles’ work is. I am so pleased and honoured to be on board.”
