Current enteral feeding practices for very preterm infants across tertiary neonatal units in the UK and Ireland: A survey

Enteral feeding practices for very preterm infants remain variable despite widespread use of both continuous and intermittent feeding strategies. This national survey explored contemporary feeding practices across tertiary neonatal units in the UK and Ireland and compared current practice with previously published international survey data. The findings demonstrate that intermittent bolus feeding is now the predominant feeding strategy in most tertiary neonatal units, while routine continuous feeding has become uncommon. The study highlights ongoing variation in practice and supports the need for contemporary multicentre trials evaluating optimal feeding strategies in very preterm infants.
