Temperature management: a guide to the latest equipment
Thermoregulation is the capability of an infant to maintain equilibrium between heat loss and heat production to sustain their body temperature within a normal range. Newborn admission temperature is a strong predictor of outcomes across all gestations. Keeping preterm infants warm is challenging, even when recommended routine thermal care guidelines are followed in the delivery room. Hypothermia or hyperthermia are likely to have adverse effects in neonates, particularly preterm neonates, so the maintenance of the neutral thermal environment is the aim of neonatal temperature control and management.
