Medical errors: What next?
Errors occur in neonatal and paediatric medicine, as in any other medical specialty. There has been extensive work on human factors and, of late, more emphasis placed on the benefits of compassionate leadership in minimising medical errors. In sharing the story of a medical error made by one of the authors we aim to encourage others who may have been involved in a medical error to recover from the emotions associated with it and to learn valuable lessons from it.
