To improve breastfeeding management and devise new interventions it is essential that basic knowledge of the suck-swallow-breathe (SSwB) process is expanded. Recent studies have begun to elucidate the SSwB process in term breastfeeding infants highlighting fundamental differences between the coordination of breast and bottle fed infants.
