Focus on Rosie Hospital, Cambridge: Maximising opportunities in new premises
Opened in 1984, the original Rosie Hospital in Cambridge was funded by a donation from local philanthropist David Robinson, whose mother Rosie had died in childbirth. At the time, the move was a step change in care from a converted work-house that housed the old Mill Road Maternity Hospital. The original Rosie Hospital was designed to cater for around 3,000 deliveries per year: by 2009 this had doubled to nearly 6,000 deliveries and the facilities were in desperate need of an upgrade.
