Congenital diaphragmatic hernia – an update

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) occurs in 1 in 2-5,000 live births in the UK and it is potentially lethal. Over 50% of infants with CDH have associated congenital anomalies. Variable survival figures have been reported. Innovative approaches are being adopted at the extremes of the condition. Effective management is dependent on a full understanding of the patho-physiology of CDH. This article reviews current knowledge, practice and options for the future.
