Royal Berkshire Hospital's family room receives a facelift

Families, visitors and staff on the special care baby unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital are delighted that thanks to the generosity of charity Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) their family room has undergone a fabulous makeover.

Gina Outram, Lead Sister for the neonatal unit, welcomed BIBS Chief Executive Sarah Critchley, along with other members of the support group on 16 May to officially open the revamped room that provides families and other visitors a private space set apart from the ward where they can take a break during visiting hours.

The family room now offers a comfortable seating area and access to tea and coffee making facilities free-of-charge, along with a table and chairs for families to sit and eat meals and snacks, and toys to help keep young siblings occupied.

Following the opening Gina thanked Sarah and all those present for their support: "We can't thank BIBS and their supporters enough for this wonderful makeover. Families are already telling us how much they appreciate having access to such a lovely space. It really does make a difference to those who are spending many hours on the ward every day with their newborn babies."
