Bereaved local nurse helps parents create special memories

Scunthorpe General Hospital children's nurse Laura Malton and friend Sophie Graham raised over £500 to be split between the hospital's charity The Health Tree Foundation and 4Louis, a charity that provides memory boxes for bereaved parents.

The Health Tree Foundation used its share of the money to buy a top-of-the- range digital print camera for the NICU at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Sophie took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in June to help raise the money for the camera, which will be used on the ward for families to record special moments with their babies.

Immediately after his birth at 23 weeks' gestation, Laura's son Ralphie was transferred to the NICU where he received critical care before being transferred to the Jessop Wing NICU in Sheffield.

While Laura, her partner Mathew and Ralphie were on the NICU, staff were able to take photos of the new family and help to create some special memories.

Baby Ralphie sadly lost his fight for life after just 30 hours. Laura says: "I know how precious photos of your newborn baby are, so having a good quality camera on hand can help parents record the special times with their babies when first born."
