Vygon launches innovative catheter for premature babies

Premistar, a new peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) specifically designed for premature babies, has been launched by Vygon.

Created for the youngest and most vulnerable patients, Premistar is said to be the only antimicrobial impregnated 1Fr PICC designed for parenteral nutrition and the administration of medicine for preterm babies.

Premistar includes the innovative Star Technology combining rifampicin and miconazole to help fight against catheter-related bloodstream infections.

The protection inherent in Premistar suppresses the growth of microorganisms such as staphylococcal, enterobacterial and candida species. This means the device can stay in the body for up to 30 days.

Premistar can be used with the introducer to best suit the patient - either a standard short IV cannula or a splitting needle (totally removable).
