Dr Peter Reynolds wins Best Neonatal Specialist award

Prime Minister Theresa May honoured unsung NHS heroes at The Sun newspaper's Who Cares Wins health awards, where she met with Frankie Thompson, the smallest boy born in the UK to survive.

Dr Peter Reynolds was awarded Best Neonatal Specialist for treating 378g Frankie when he was born at 24 weeks' gestation.

The PM says: "Peter and all the other winners represent the very best of our NHS — they have shown care, compassion and professionalism, and I want to say thank you to them."

Dr Reynolds of St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, says of Frankie, now 13 months: "Seeing him now, so big and full of life, is so rewarding. Neonatal care is about outcomes and learning how to achieve them. The team at St Peter's NICU is wonderful and achievements like this are for all of us. It was a great night for our neonatal unit."

The event was hosted by TV personality Lorraine Kelly and was held at British Medical Association House in Tavistock Square, central London.
