£31m investment approved for child health services in Wales

Welsh Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has approved over £31 million of investment for child health, premature babies and obstetric services in South Wales.

More than £25 million will be spent on redeveloping neonatal and obstetric services at the University Hospital of Wales. The investment will provide a redeveloped neonatal unit with expanded facilities for patients and families including a bereavement suite and increased ward space for up to eight additional cots.

Further funding of over £1.2 million has been awarded to Hywel Dda University Health Board to develop a full business case for the second phase of improvements to maternity and neonatal services at Glangwili Hospital. The funding allows the health board to bring forward plans to make Glangwili Hospital more accessible to patients while improving the neonatal unit and labour ward at the site.
